Understanding Your Options

If you’re exploring rehabilitation for someone you love, you’re likely making a lot of important decisions based on their individual circumstances and advice from their healthcare professionals.

Here are three of the most important ones:

✔ Which treatment option is right?

This is between you, your loved one and their healthcare team

✔ How will treatment be funded?

Options include Medicare, private health cover and self-funded (private)

✔ If self-funding is required, what finance options are available?

This is where Thrive Recovery Finance can help.

Thrive Recovery Finance provides financial guidance only. We don’t recommend rehabilitation providers, offer medical advice or determine which treatment is right. Once you’ve decided on a treatment pathway, we’re here to help you explore the finance options that may be available.

Funding treatment

There are several ways rehabilitation may be funded, depending on your circumstances

and the type of treatment being sought.

Medicare
(publicly funded)

Some publicly funded rehabilitation services may be available through the Australian healthcare system. Availability and eligibility vary depending on your location and circumstances.

Private health insurance

Depending on your level of cover, private health insurance may contribute towards rehabilitation costs. Check with your insurer to understand what may be included under your policy.

Self-funded rehabilitation

Many private rehabilitation programs require full or partial payment. If funding is the only barrier, Thrive Recovery Finance can help you explore finance options.

Did you know?

If you’re considering private rehabilitation, it may be worth exploring Australia’s once-only Mental Health Waiver.

Depending on your circumstances, the waiver may help both existing private health insurance members and people considering taking out eligible hospital cover access higher psychiatric hospital benefits sooner than the standard waiting period.

Because eligibility rules, waiting periods and policy requirements vary, it’s important to understand how the waiver works before making any decisions.

Treatment locations

Private rehabilitation programs are available throughout Australia and overseas, including Bali.

Programs differ in their approach, duration, setting and cost. The most appropriate option depends on the individual and should be discussed with their healthcare professionals.

While Grahame and Sean have personal experience with rehabilitation in both Australia and Bali, Thrive Recovery Finance doesn’t recommend or endorse any particular provider or location.

“We’re absolutely stoked with the support we received. Without this service, we simply wouldn’t have been able to get our son into rehabilitation when he needed it. He’s doing incredibly well, and we’ll be forever grateful for the help that made it possible.” —Emma K.
